Meet Cindy

Cindy Metcalf has been in the fitness industry for 30 plus years as a Spin Instructor, Cycling Coach, Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, and Pilates Teacher.  In Pilates, she has started programs at other organizations and teaches all levels of group and private classes. Cindy has most recently been at the University for twelve years as an Associate Professor, teaching Fitness for Life, Pilates, Cycling, Barre, and Group Fitness.  She has a BS from the University of Utah and is a Master Instructor for Balanced Body.  She and Meri run the teacher training program for Balanced Body and has certified many of the teachers currently teaching in Utah and surrounding states.  She is NCPT Certified and Faculty with Balanced Body.  Recently Cindy and Meri have merged the training program at the University of Utah into an LLC called Elevate Pilates Education.  This now enables them to train at any Balanced Body equipped studio from Park City to St. George.  We can also do onsite trainings set up through Balanced Body.

Cindy’s journey into Pilates has been a matter of necessity due to injury.  Injured at a young age in gymnastics and then again in a motorcycle accident after high school, she is no stranger to surgeries. She has made it her life’s work to keep her body functioning so she can do what she loves.  That includes snow skiing, cycling, water skiing and spending as much time as possible in the mountains and lakes with her kids and grandkids.  Ten knee surgeries, a recent hip and knee replacement and an elbow repair keep her learning, and personally implementing what she learns. Sharing what she has learned through her healing process is a passion for Cindy.  She has a love of people and a desire to help them with their fitness goals, whatever they may be.  Cindy will bring Pilates into your training regimen in a way that will make sense to you and what you do.

Cindy and her husband Richard are the parents of five wonderful humans, and grandparents to eleven. Cindy wants to be as healthy and active as possible till she’s 90…or in her grave.  Joseph Pilates has said ‘Change happens through movement and movement heals’, and ‘A man is as young as his spinal column’.  Finding that to be true, Cindy strives to stay active, healthy and will continue moving till the very end.  She has a love of people and learning and would love to have you join us in your journey!

Meet Meri

Meri first found Pilates as a modern dancer, where she began her own Pilates practice to alleviate chronic lower back pain from years of misalignment and misuse. Following her successful rehabilitation, she knew she wanted to help others the way her instructors had helped her. This motivated Meri to seek out a Pilates teacher training  that specialized in rehab. Meri underwent her first Pilates teacher training program through Polestar Pilates in 2007, and was then certified by the Pilates Method Alliance & now the National Pilates Certification. After discovering a passion for anatomy and kinesiolgy, Meri shifted her efforts from Fine Arts in Modern Dance, to Science and later received her degree in Exercise Physiology with an emphasis in Fitness leadership from the University of Utah. After graduating she went on to become liscenced through the American College of Sports Medicine, as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist C-EP, so that she could personal train high-risk individuals. A yoga enthusiast as well, she obtained her Yoga Alliance 200 hour yoga instructor certification in 2010. Meri is a Balance Body Master educator and she thoroughly enjoys educating Pilates teachers in training. She has been teaching and certifying Pilates instructors since 2011!
